While Southern West Virginia is particularly well-known for having one of the world’s longest single-span steel-arch bridge (aka The New River Gorge Bridge), we also have some very remarkable covered bridges.
Southern West Virginia is home to 4 covered bridges, which are all listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Autumn is the perfect time to discover these incredible, historic bridges.

The railroad helped shape and form our state, making travel and transportation of supplies and equipment possible in the wild pioneer days. Railroads peaked during the golden late 1800s, and well into the 1920s, before automobiles were able to navigate our mountainous roads.
