This event is populated solely with local artists & artisan vendors from Southern West Virginia and is intended to be an annual showcase of that talent/ artisanry.
Details for the “Southern West Virginia Idol” (18 & Under) 2 August 2025 are as follows:
Initial screening submissions should be sent as a video of the band or solo act of a full-length original or cover song along with the Band/ Artis name, phone number, and email address to lroden@raleighcountyparks.gov.
There is no limit to the number of submissions we will collect, but there is a limit to the number of submissions allowed per participant. Each participant is limited to one (1) Band entry and one (1) Solo entry. Entries will be collected with a submission begin date of 1 May 2025, and a cutoff date of July 1. Any submissions sent after 1 July 2025 will not be accepted for show date deliberation. *All contestants must be from Southern West Virginia.
The Southern West Virginia Idol (18 & Under) will be holding the competition in three categories with two categorical winners:
There will be a “Littles” (0–12-year-old) competition which will be a mixed competition of band and solo artists. (Winner will receive a trophy and bragging rights!) (10 Littles accepted for show date)
There will be an 18-and-under Band competition. The winner will receive a trophy and move on to the finale to compete against the winner of the solo artist competition for the grand prize.
(5 Bands will be accepted for the show date)
There will be an 18-and-under Solo competition. The winner will receive a trophy and move on to the finale to compete against the Band artist competition for the grand prize.
(10 Solo artists will be accepted for the show date)
The winners of the Band and Solo artist competitions will compete for the grand prize as follows:
Receive 1-4 hours or professional recording studio time in which to record a single at the Kid In The Background Recording Studio in Beckley, WV. (Four-hour Maximum)
Southern Communications agrees to host the winner to their studios where one original pre-produced song may be played on air during the appropriate Morning Show of either 103CIR or 105.9 WTNJ.
*Any song would need to be pre-approved by staff and management of Southern Communications to ensure that it meets all broadcast standards*
*Broadcast standards include, but are not limited to, quality of recording and musicianship, no vulgarity or inappropriate lyrics. Any songs considered for airplay must be approved by the management of Southern Communications.*
