The Pocahontas Exhibition Mine is an educational look at underground coal mining in southwest Virginia. Coal was first mined there in 1882 and the mine operated for 73 years. With a 13-foot tall coal seam, the mine was proud to fuel the American Navy. The mine is open Wed-Sat from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m.-5 p.m. From to September. If you have a group of 12 or more you can schedule a tour at any time by calling 276-945-9522. Admission for adults is $10.00 and children are $8.00. Children that are under the age of six can see the mine and the museum for free.
