Babcock Hike – Narrow Gauge Trail

Join Community Captain Lynn to walk the Narrow Gauge Trail in beautiful Babcock State Park. The walk will be approximately 5 miles.
See the best of Southern West Virginia’s parks when you join one of our hikes. Hikes go at a leisurely pace and are led by Community Captains. Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather and wear sturdy closed-toe shoes. You are welcome to bring walking sticks/hiking poles for assistance and are encouraged to bring your own water and sunscreen. The length of each hike may vary. All hikes are perfect for grand families, groups with multiple interests, and individuals. All are welcome! Youth are encouraged to attend but must be accompanied by a guardian and the adult must stay on-site during the activity. Trained Community Captains deliver free, beginner-level instructional programs to area parks. Active SWV empowers our community to see outdoor spaces as a place for health and wellness to take place.

The volunteers, participants, and partners acknowledge and understand that exposure to disease-causing organisms, such as COVID-19, and personal contact with others, including but not limited to participants, non-participants, organizers, volunteers, onlookers and other individuals in the activity/program involves a certain degree of risk that could result in illness, permanent disability or death. The participant acknowledges that Active SWV has not screened or tested any of the participants for such diseases. After fully and carefully considering all the potential risks involved, The participant hereby assumes the same and agrees to release and hold harmless Active SWV and its employees, officers, agents, volunteers, vendors, and contractors from and against all claims and liability resulting from exposure to disease-causing organisms such as COVID-19.
Volunteers and participants should not attend group programs if experiencing any of the following.
• Have you been in close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19?
• Are you experiencing a cough, shortness of breath, or sore throat?
• Have you had a fever in the last 48 hours?
• Have you had a new loss of taste or smell?
• Have you had vomiting or diarrhea in the last 24 hours
If a participant has any primary or secondary symptoms during the above-stated time frame they will be asked not to participate in the program.
Active SWV will encourage supervisors, participants, and spectators, to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including appropriate face coverings, as recommended by each county health department. Further, to the greatest extent possible, encourage participants to wear appropriate PPE, including appropriate face coverings when not actively participating. Staying physically active, socially connected, and nourished is vital to a healthy quality of life. We encourage you to continue safely attending programs and building a routine for an active lifestyle.
Regarding Community Captain Programs and groups of children: All Active SWV Community Captain programs are family-friendly; children are invited to attend with the expectation of a parent/guardian ratio of 1 guardian adult to 5 children. It is our expectation for larger groups of children (e.g. Scouts, youth groups, etc), that an adult-to-child ratio of 1 adult to 5 children be observed in ages 5 and under, and 1 adult to 10 children be observed for ages 5 and above.
