Join the Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce for the Appalachian Maker’s Market on August 25th and 26th at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center here in Beckley WV.
Their market is a fun shopping experience that celebrates skilled Appalachian artists and makers pursuing their life-long passion. From handmade soaps to hand-fused fine silver jewelry, you’ll find many exclusive gifts and beautifully crafted items for you and your home.
Within Appalachia is a rich and unique history of handcrafting; from culinary arts to metalworking. The new Appalachian Makers Market celebrates the region’s finest makers. Throughout the years the display of intricate quilts around the rotunda has been one of the most popular attractions. The Appalachian Treasures Quilt Show remains an integral part of the new Appalachian Makers Market.
Appalachian Treasure Quilt Show
The ATQS Committee is pleased to feature the 48th Appalachian Treasures Quilt Show as an integral part of the 2023 Appalachian Makers Market to be held at the Beckley- Raleigh County Convention Center on August 25 and 26, 2023.
This year our theme is “Garden Party” which pays tribute to the many floral patterns, fabrics, and designs so popular in the quilting world. The theme category will include those things that come to mind when speaking of gardens – maybe even those friendly creatures like birds and butterflies.
The quilts hanging around the upper rotunda have been entered by quilters to be judged and awarded ribbons for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and Honorable Mention in 15 categories. This year we have also introduced a new category – Exhibit Only – for those quilters who wish to display their work without competing for ribbons. In addition, Best of Show, Judge’s Choice, Best Use of Color (this year green), and People’s Choice are awarded a special ribbon as well as a cash award. The People’s Choice award is voted on by the viewing public and announced at the end of the show.
The quilts hanging in the center of the Convention Center were created by the following quilters: Dorothy Albright – Colorsplash Trip Around the World; Michael Brown – Prismatic Star; Vanessa Hambrick – Ombre’ Northern Lights; and Jody Postalwait – Fall Star. These quilts have been selected from previous ribbon winners for their stunning visual design.
