New River Gorge Wildflower Weekend @ West Virginia National & State Parks

Are you ready for spring?  Explore the area’s natural diversity at programs in New River Gorge National River, Babcock State Park, Hawks Nest State Park, Little Beaver State Park, Pipestem Resort State Park, and Tamarack.

All programs are free! Bring water and wear sturdy hiking shoes for guided walks. Snacks, binoculars, a hand lens, and a favorite field guide are also useful.

Join the Bibbee Nature Club from 8-10 am for a Flower & Bird Walk. Ramp Feast from 11am to 3pm featuring ramp casserole, brown beans, cornbread, slaw, drink and dessert. $12

West Virginia Craft Brew Festival @ The West Virginia State Fairgrounds

Rhododendron Festival @ Beckley-Raleigh County Area

Celebrate West Virginia’s State Flower at events throughout the Beckley – Raleigh County region. Events include Art Shows & Classes, Music Concerts, Sweet Treats Dessert Event, Outdoor Movie, Founders Day History Event, Recreation events (runs, walks, biking, baseball & more!), and scenic walks at Grandview – where the rhododendrons are amazing.  A complete schedule will be posted when available.

The Migration Celebration @ Little Beaver State Park

Taking place at Little Beaver State Park, this family friendly celebration of West Virginia’s birds and the state’s natural heritage takes place Saturday, May 13th from 9am to 5 pm. Photography workshop, bird and bugs walks, storytelling, kids activities and more.  A full calendar of events will be available on the Three Rivers Avian Center website.  Admission is free but donations are welcome.

Mountaineer Adventure Racing w/ Adventure Enablers @ ACE Adventure Resort

Join us in Almost Heaven–West Virginia–and flex those mountaineer muscles. For the inaugural Mountaineer Strong, racers will whitewater raft with a guide on Class III-V rapids down the New River, mountain bike on amazing trails in the New River Gorge, and trek through the beautiful ACE Adventure Resort property. This Appalachian state, covered with rugged mountains and river valleys, has long been known for its epic outdoor pursuits. Once you finish this race, we hope you’ll have a deeper understanding of WV’s state motto: Montani Semper Liberi (“Mountaineers are always free”).

Wonderland Mountain Challenge @ ACE Adventure Resort

Get outside and run wild at ACE Adventure Resort’s spring trail run through the beautiful mountains of West Virginia.  This distinctive race route will take racers through the New River Gorge past scenice rock outcrops, cascading streams and abandoned coal mines. Waiting at the finish line for racers is a burrito buffet to tame the appetite you’ve developed. Cash prizes will be awarded to winners and finisher medals plus you get bragging rights for tackling the Wonderland Mountain Challenge.

Half Marathon, 10K Run & Walk are all open for registration.

26th Annual Kids Fishing Derby @ Little Beaver State Park

Discover the joys of fishing and develop an appreciation of WV streams, rivers and wildlife at this annual event. We welcome kids 14 and under and their families.  Bring basic fishing gear. Lunch and a limited supply of bait will be provided.  Registration is from 9am to 10:30am and kids must be registered to be eligible for prizes.  There will also be archery and hayrides activities.
