2017 National Scout Jamboree Visitor Days @ Summit Bechtel Reserve
Jul 21 – Jul 27 all-day

Day visitors have access to the Summit Center during the Jamboree. The Summit Center is the hub of Jamboree activity and is home to the stadium shows, the military exhibits, conservation trail, Disabilities Awareness Area, Sustainability Treehouse, merit badges, and a wide variety of other exhibits and displays.

Observers and participants can see all the above listed items and visit the main retail store, purchase retail food items, and experience Brownsea Island.

In addition those who purchase a participant pass can experience other elements of the Summit Center including Boulder Cove, Challenge Course, Skate Board Plaza, Mountain Biking, Shooting Sports, Climbing, Zip-lining, and BMX riding.

Visitor access to activities is based on availability. Activities may be closed at times due to adverse weather conditions. Day visitors do not have access to the base camps or activity areas.

Visitor hours will be as follows:

Friday, July 21st: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
Saturday, July 22nd: 9:00 am – End of Show
Sunday, July 23rd: 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm
Monday, July 24th: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
Tuesday, July 25th: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
Wednesday, July 26th: 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
Thursday, July 27th: 9:00 am – 4:00 pm (note the early closing time)

 

For your convenience and security, please:

No backpacks
No Coolers
No picnic baskets
Visitors are encouraged to bring water bottles and/or small daypacks.

Visitor Logistics

Shuttle transportation to the Summit Center from the visitor lot is provided with your pass. Visitor shuttles run regularly all day during the Jamboree. All visitors will be required to return to their cars when visitation hours end each day.

Upon arrival, all visitors will see a Youth Protection presentation. For everyone’s security, all bags may be screened or checked.

The last shuttle to the Summit Center will depart from the visitor lot two hours before the posted closing hour. On, Saturday, July 22, 2017, the last shuttle to the Summit Center will be 6pm.

We can’t wait for you to visit the 2017 National Scout Jamboree. You will have the experience of a lifetime and a taste of everything the Jamboree has to offer!

Blues Block Party @ Beckley Underground

Blues Block Party hits the uptown Beckley Underground headlined by blues legend Johnny Rawls. Also on the bill is Creek Don’t Rise and other acts TBA. Enjoy the unique setting of Beckley’s Underground and food and craft vendors all while being able to enjoy an adult beverage on Sir Walter’s Tavern patio as you groove to the blues.

All the action will be located right outside of Brown Dog Bottom at the Tickety Boo Mercantile building.
Children are allowed but must be accompanied by an adult in areas where alcohol is served.

Beckley’s Annual Cruise In Car Show @ Historic Uptown Beckley

Uptown’s annual Cruise-in Car & Bike show!  The first 90 show vehicle owners who register at Word Park between 6:00 and 6:45 pm will receive a dash plaque.  Vehicle registration is $10. Specialty awards by City departments will be presented, along with door prizes.

Terror of the Tug Outdoor Drama @ McArts Amphitheatre
Jul 29 @ 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm

The drama “Terror of the Tug” by Jean Battlo will be performed July  29th at 8pm. Bring a lawn chair and settle in under the stars for a WV History Lesson while being entertained.  The story is about the WV Mining Wars and the shooting of Matewan’s Sid Hatfield and Ed Chambers on the Welch Courthouse Steps on August 1, 1921 by the Baldwin-Felts agents.

For 2017 there will be a special showing of Terror of the Tug at the Amphitheatre located at Pipestem Resort State Park on August 5th.

Gritty Chix Mud Run @ ACE Adventure Resort

Chix is in the name, but we won’t exclude the guys that respect our Grit – those guys are man enough to run with Gritty Chix! It’s all about excitement, laughter and camaraderie so we encourage lending a helping hand to all Gritty Chix throughout the course. Open to ages 10 and up; under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Have fun and test your own limits in the time and space you’re comfortable with, while gettin’ as Gritty as you wanna be on an untimed Tenacious 5k Trail or 1 Moxie Mile fun-run and mud obstacle course designed for excitement, fun, and laughter. Walk, sprint, skip, jog, or dance through trails, over walls, through tubes, and mud pits with names like Commando Crawl, Over-Under Logs, Slickey Slide, and more!

Wear anything you feel comfortable in. Anything. A bikini, a costume, overalls, a prom dress, whatever. But it will get dirty!

Free stuff: campsite, live music, parking, showers, and goodie bags.

New River Gorge Games (Captain Thurmond Challenge) @ Historic Fayetteville & Historic Thurmond

A fun weekend in the New River Gorge with two triathlons, The Captain Thurmond’s Challenge (extreme) set for Saturday is a multi sport off road race with mountain biking, kayaking and trail running.

The Thurmond Triathlon on Sunday will bring families out for a family friendly  beginner adventure.  Make memories while you bike, paddle and run.

53rd Annual Appalachian Arts & Crafts Fair @ Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center

Crafters from around the region display and sell their crafts. Quilt show, art show, fabulous food and live Appalachian entertainment. 10am to 8pm Friday and Saturday and Sunday noon until 6pm.
