36th Annual Lumberjackin’ Bluegrassin’ Jamboree @ Twin Falls Resort State Park

Enjoy a great weekend wrapped up in beautiful Fall colors.  The Lumberjack Festival has something for everyone. A family-oriented event, featuring a Lumberjack competition, music, hayrides, and a variety of arts and crafts by area residents. The Lumberjack Competition is Saturday only and begins at 10:00am. Coordinated by Twin Falls Resort State Park, College Timber Sports Teams will be competing in ax throw, log roll, crosscut saw, chain saw, one-man bucking, bolt splitting, horizontal chop, pole fell and more. Sunday at 2:00 pm Jeffrey Wayne will be playing some Bluegrass music until 5pm.

The Giant Fall Flea Market & Antique Show @ WV State Fairgrounds

The annual event showcases over two hundred indoor & outdoor vendors selling antiques, collectibles, crafts, new & used merchandise.  Visit the Flea Market from 8 am to 6 pm on Friday & Saturday, then 9 am to 3 pm on Sunday.  Free parking is available in the Fair’s main parking lot across Rt-219.

Join ACE Adventure Resort & Lola Rizer for an overnight paranormal investigation in the New River Gorge. We will visit some to the most haunted places inside the park including Thurmond, Erskine, Wee Win & Rush Run. Space is limited as we are only taking 20 participants on this investigation.

Rocket Boys October Sky Festival @ The Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine

This annual festival in it’s 21st year will be held in Beckley for the sixth consecutive year. Held in past years in Coalwood, WV (where Homer Hickam and the Rocket Boys grew up)  the event will be staged at the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine/New River Park.

Saturday’s events begin at 8am at New River Park. There will be crafts, specialty vendors, music and a rocket launch. You will be able to meet Homer Hickam and the Rocket Boys at the Festival as well as meet and greet other WV authors on ‘Writer’s Row”.

Montclair String Quartet, the West Virginia premier string quartet, are previous prize winners of the Evian International String Quartet Competition, the Banff International String Quartet Competition, the Coleman Chamber Ensemble Competition, Chamber Music Society of the Monterey Peninsula Competition, the Chamber Music Yellow Springs Competition and are recipients of the Mayor’s Award for Outstanding Organization given by the Fund for the Arts.
