If you’re seeking that chill down your spine feeling or in search of a sugar rush, look no further. Here is our list of ways to get into the Halloween spirit in Southern West Virginia.
Haunted Coal Mine
It’s time to step into the dark and embrace the shadows of the Haunted Coal Mine at the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine. With talent provided by Theatre West Virginia, the haunted coal mine is a local favorite. Wander into the mine on October 10, 11, 17, 18, 24 and 25.

Macbeth by Greenbrier Valley Theatre
Known as “The Scottish Play,” because to say the play’s real name is to bring disaster, makes Macbeth a great play to see during the spooky season. Created by the famous William Shakespeare, Macbeth is about a Scottish general who follows a path of ambition and paranoia after being told by three witches that he would become king. Shows at the Greenbrier Valley Theatre go from October 17 to November 1.

Candlelight tour of Lewisburg’s historic cemeteries
Join Carnegie Hall and the Greenbrier Historical Society for a candlelit tour of two of Lewisburg’s historic cemeteries. Learn about the lives and deaths of Lewisburg’s more renowned residents. You might even see a ghost! Tours are Oct 16, 17, 24, and 25 from 7PM to 9PM.

Trick-or-Treats
You can’t have Halloween without candy! There are trick-or-treat and/or trunk-or-treat events to bring your young ones throughout Southern West Virginia. Check them out: Spooktacular Trick or Treat at Tamarack Marketplace (10/24), Trunk or Treat at Twin Falls Resort State Park (10/25), Trail of Treats in Ansted (10/25), Creepin’ at the Creek Trunk or Treat at Camp Creek State Park (10/25), Little Beaver State Park Foundation Trunk or Treat (10/25), Camp or Treat at Lake Stephens (10/18), and the annual Trunk or Treat at Burning Rock Off Road Park (10/30).
See the Horror Circus at the Beckley Raleigh County Convention Center
Prepare to be amazed, thrilled, and scared by the eerie and twisted performances of the Horror Circus at the Beckley Raleigh County Convention Center. While the show might be family-friendly, the performance is recommended for viewers at least 13 years old. See the show on Tuesday, October 21, from 7PM to 8:30PM.
Fright Nights
Known as one of the best scare experiences in West Virginia, Fright Nights at The Resort at Glade Springs takes place in the resort’s barn with six haunts to choose from: Moonshine Massacre, Shipwrecked, Camp Kilamee vs. Mothman, Freakshow, HeXeD and NEW this year – The Cabin.
Outdoor showing of Hocus Pocus under the stars
Settle into the Halloween spirit with an outdoor showing of Hocus Pocus at the Lively Family Amphitheatre. There will be a pumpkin lighting contest before the show to add to the ambiance. There will be free popcorn and paid concessions.

On October 25th, Downtown Oak Hill welcomes all the witches, ghouls, and goblins for a vintage Halloween party. Dress up, eat some candy, and enjoy the vintage Halloween vibes.
Monster Bash at ACE Adventure Resort
It’s a graveyard smash! Enjoy a night of thrills, costumes, dancing, and hauntingly good entertainment at the ACE Adventure Resort. Join the fun on Halloween night.
Ales from the Crypt Halloween Party at Weathered Ground Brewery
Featuring live music from Matt Mullins & the Bringdowns, a costume contest, and cold craft beers, this party goes from 6PM to 10PM on Halloween night.

Halloween Ball at Greenbrier Valley Brewing Company
Dance and drink Halloween night away at Greenbrier Valley Brewing Company‘s annual Halloween Ball! Start the night by rocking out to jam band music then a DJ while sipping on a special beer release. A 50/50 costume contest will be held to support the Greenbrier Humane Society.

Haunted Halloween Camping Weekend at Mountain Lake Campground
For the first three weekends in October, Mountain Lake Campground is hosting haunted Halloween weekends. Enjoy trick-or-treating, games, a pumpkin patch, wagon rides, haunted house decorating and more!
The Creepy Company Store in Kimball, WV
Set in the heart of coal country, the Creepy Company Store is sure to frighten. Proceeds go to the Kimball Fire Department. Join the scary fun on October 4, 11, 18, 25, 31, and November 1.
Edgar Allen Poe Speakeasy at the Gaines Estate
Transport yourself back in time with this traveling, immersive experience. The Edgar Allen Poe Speakeasy event includes a 4-part chilling craft cocktail experience featuring theatrical productions done by Poe historians. This event is for one weekend only, October 17 and 18.

The Fall Ball Square Dance
Party at the Fall Ball Square Dance at The Outpost at The New River Gorge on October 25! Families with children are welcome, and no prior square dancing experience is necessary. Learn to square dance with a lesson at 6:30 followed by the party at 7!
Fayetteville’s Witches & Warlocks Paddle at Fayette Station
Calling witches and warlocks! Come paddle on the New River by Fayette Station on Sunday, October 26. This event is meant for experienced paddlers and is capped at 80 participants. Come dressed in your spooky garbs and PFDs to paddle up the New.
Rocky Horror Picture Show Halloween Party at Southside Junction
Get on your singing and dancing shoes for a fabulous showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show at Southside Junction Tap House on October 29. The party starts at 8 PM, and you can expect the whole costumed cult classic antics, themed drinks, and fun. Tickets are only sold online here.
Fall Cider Fest at Old World Libations
While not specifically Halloween themed, the Fall Cider Fest at Old World Libations will get you in a festive autumnal mood. This weekend-long celebration on October 25 and 26 features food vendors, fresh-pressed cider, live apple-pressing demonstrations, artisan vendors, and wine tastings.
