The Southern Gateway to New River Gorge
Tucked into the hills of Southern West Virginia, Summers County offers quiet charm and outdoor adventure. At its heart is Hinton, a revitalized rail town known for its local shops, restaurants and small-town feel. It also serves as the southeastern entrance to the New River Gorge National Park and Preserve.
North of Hinton is Sandstone Falls, the New River’s largest waterfall. Stretching 1,500 feet wide with drops up to 25 feet, it marks the river’s dramatic transformation. Boardwalks, bridges and overlooks offer plenty of chances to soak in the view. For more outdoor recreation, hit the trails at Pipestem Resort State Park and Bluestone State Park.
