Color Play @ The Youth Museum of Southern West Virginia

Color Play – the newest exhibit at the Youth Museum will be on display until Dec. 31, 2017.

Color plays a vitally important role in the world in which we live. In art, color can produce a mood or atmosphere, create space, light and shadow. On a human level, color can sway thinking, change actions and cause reactions. Scientifically color can irritate or soothe your eyes, raise your blood pressure or suppress your appetite.

The exhibit has 14 hands-on components and at the different stations major concepts are explores such as white light, prisms, pixel colors, color mixing, afterimages, layering, color patterns and more.

Museum hours area daily 10am to 6pm.

Holiday of Lights Festival @ Bluefield City Park

What began with a few scattered snowflakes has grown to over 850,000 lights transformed into a showcase of holiday themes that are sure to touch the hearts of every visitor.  This beautiful array of lights covers 110+ acres of parkland and provides a 1.5 mile drive through the park.  Open through Dec 31.

Hours of Operation

Sunday-Thursday: 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
Friday-Saturday: 6:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.

Special Events Include:

  • A Walk Through The Park
  • A Night in Bethleham
  • Santa at the Ridge Runner Train Station and Trolley Ride
  • Hayrides , Bonfires, Live Nativity

An incredible meal without the mess. Take the family out for Thanksgiving at The Resort at Glade Springs. Call for reservations. Seating times are at noon, 1, 2 and 3PM.  Reservations Required.   Buffet cost does not include tax or gratuity.

41st Annual Thanksgiving Day Run @ Paul Cline Memorial Youth Sports Complex

For more than 40 years, Beckley area residents have started their Thanksgiving with the YMCA of Southern West Virginia.  The tradition continues with the 41st Annual Thanksgiving Day Run at the YMCA Paul Cline Memorial Youth Sports Complex.  Participants can choose to run or walk five miles or to complete the one-mile Family Fun Run.

Thanksgiving Brunch:  Smokey’s Steakhouse  will serve up a delicious brunch on Thanksgiving Day from 10am to 5pm.  There will be hot lunch selections, Chef carving station, Baked Bread Display, hot breakfast selections, side items and sweets. Brunch is $39.95 for adults; $15 for children 8 to 12.  7 and under are free. Reservations are recommended.

Thanksgiving to go: Fully cooked meals featuring turkey, prime rib or ham available for pick-up between November 21-23. Orders must be placed by November 16th. Price varies with selections. Desserts also available. Thanksgiving to Go

It’s a Wonderful Life Live from WVL Radio Theatre @ Chuck Mathena Center

This 1940s “live broadcast” of Frank Capra’s beloved film takes us back to the Golden Age of Radio. This fresh new adaptation of the film is set in the fictional studio of WVL Radio Theatre on a cold, snowy winter night. Due to the blizzard, the professional voice actors are unable to get through, but the show must go on — so a small but intrepid band of employees manage to create the dozens of movie characters and scenes using just their voices and a sound effects table.
