TOM ACOSTA INVITATIONAL SOLO EXHIBITION @ Beckley Art Center

With more than 40 years of painting experience, Southern West Virginian Tom Acosta is known throughout many regions of Appalachia for his artistic works in oil and watercolor paintings and murals.

Tom is an award-winning painter in both oil and water color mediums, and his work has been seen in galleries throughout the region. Today, his works can be seen at The Pottery at the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, WV

Exhibit is open Wednesday – Saturday from 11am to 5pm.

Byrnside Branch Farm Fall Celebration @ Byrnside Branch Farm
Oct 5 – Nov 3 all-day

Large (18 acre!) and small corn mazes, hay maze for kids and a twilight maze. Hay rides, bonfires, farm tractor tours, barrel train rides for kids and farm animals.  Jumping zone, corn box, and tractor tire playground for kids.  Potato cannon and  chalkboard activity. Open Friday 5-10pm, Saturday 10am-10pm and Sunday 1pm to 9pm.

Live music every weekend.

Chestnut Hill Farm Fall Event @ Chestnut Hill Farm
Oct 5 – Oct 28 all-day

Admission $8 includes corn maze, hay ride, kiddie train, petting zoo, play ground, corn hole, and checkers. Kids 4 and under are FREE. Sling shot pricing is $3 per bucket of apples to shoot or 2 buckets for $5. We will also have Pumpkins of all sizes, Straw Bales and Fodder Stalks for sale as well. Along with local craft and food vendors on Saturdays.

Friday night flashlight maze tours are $5 from dark to 10pm – bring your own flashlight!

Open Friday 4-10pm, Saturdays from 10am to 6pm and Sunday from 1pm to 6pm.

Amish ice cream and baked goods available each Saturday! Prices for admission is $10 for adults, $8 for kids ages 5 to 12, 4 and under free.

Admission includes: JESUS SAVES corn maze with animal of the bible trivia, hayrides (new characters hiding this year), skeet ball, rollie pollie, Duckie races, milking cow, little corn maze, hay bale maze with tunnels, trike tract, pumpkin bowling, big chair, barrel train, corn crib, skeet ball, fire pits and more. We accept groups at anytime. Sling shots is new this year! 4 shots for $1, bucket (25 apples) for $5. Concessions available too. Everyone welcome!

This Halloween ride through the forest on a tractor driven hayride where the forest comes alive…Warning: Due to the graphic nature of this event, children 15 years and younger must be accompanied by an adult. $14 and children 10 years and younger just $8. Lake Shawnee’s Haunted House & Haunted History Tours @ Lake Shawnee

Lake Shawnee will be open this year on Friday & Saturday nights & Halloween with  2 attractions! Sept 28, 29, October 5, 6, 12, 13, 19, 20, 26, 27 & 31st.

1st – Photo and History Tour
Self-guided tour with storytelling by the campfires at the Park area and you can visit the Shawnee Indians Burial Grounds.You might want to bring a flashlight, camera or your paranormal equipment. PHOTOS WILL BE ALLOWED – Tour from dark to 11pm. 

2nd – Lake Nightmare
A haunted house attraction where our team of professional fright technicians will bring your worst fears to life. Our scares will become your Nightmares. NO PHOTOS OR VIDEO ALLOWED AT THIS ATTRACTION – Tickets will be sold until 10:30pm (10pm on Halloween night)

The haunted park has been the subject of several high profile TV shows including the Travel Channel’s Most Terrifying Places in America, the Discovery Channel’s Ghost Lab, and ABC’s Ten Most Haunted Places in the World. Paranormal investigators have combed the site in search of ghosts, and witnesses make claims of swings moving on their own and the disembodied laughter of children.

A Temptations Revue @ Chuck Mathena Center

Bringing the unforgettable songs of Motown to CMC is “A Temptations Revue” featuring former lead singer of the Temptations and Grammy Award winner Barrington “Bo” Henderson (1998-2003), one of the only Temptations lead singers to have received a Grammy. This dynamic and driving show spans more than a decade of Temptations classics: “My Girl,” “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone,” “Get Ready,” “Ain’t Too Proud To Beg,” and so many more!

This is a rescheduled performance from Sept 15th.

Fright Nights @ The Resort at Glade Springs

Southern WV’s biggest and scariest haunted attraction!  2018 Fright Nights features the Appalachian Anarchy Haunted Trail, 3D Nightmare and Laser Tag, Spooky Golf, and an Escape Room w/Titanic and The Forbidden Tomb.

Make this an annual excursion! Theme varies each year.

Gauley Season! @ Gauley River

The world-class Gauley River runs 23 days in 2018 – these special dates coincide with dam releases to bring Summersville Lake down to winter pool making for an incredible rafting adventure.

The Lower Gauley is a fun, exciting trip suitable for beginners as well as those looking for adventure. Typical minimum age 12.

The Upper Gauley is for the experienced adventure seekers – typical minimum age is 16.

 

Hinton Railroad Days @ Hinton Railroad Museum

October 20, 21, 27 and 28th.

Hinton Railroad Days is held annually in October.  Patrons of the New River Train Excursion wind through the “Grand Canyon of the East” and arrive in Hinton.  Passengers and visitors to Hinton alike enjoy the streets filled with a variety of vendors, great food and live entertainment. Visitors also enjoy the Hinton Railroad Museum and carriage rides through our Historic District.

New River Gorge Bridge Day @ New River Gorge Bridge
Oct 20 @ 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

On the 3rd Saturday of October every year, the New River Gorge Bridge closes to traffic and opens to attitude!  BASE jumpers, rappellers, vendors and spectators share the excitement, spectacle, the experience of this day. Come be part of it! Big Adventure, Big Day, Bridge Day!

Be sure and come to the Taste of Bridge Day Friday the 19th at Smokey’s on the Gorge.

Bridge is open to pedestrians from 9am to 3pm. The best way to get to the bridge on Bridge Day is to take one of the shuttles. Park your car and for $2 per person we will drop you off at the Bridge Day entrance.

Bus Stop Location South

  • Oak Hill Kroger/K-mart: The bus stop will be located on Kroger side of the median between Kroger and K-mart, at the far end of the median from the store
  • Fayetteville Walmart: the bus stop will be located will be located at the far left side of Walmart.
  • Fayetteville High School: the bus stop is right at the entrance to the gravel parking area. The buses turn around in front of the school and stop to pick up at the entrance to the upper gravel area.
  • Fayetteville Court House: the bus stop will be in front of Studio B Gallery.

  • Smales Branch Road: in front of the Lighthouse Worship Center

Scenic Chairlift Rides @ Winterplace Ski Resort
Oct 20 @ 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm

Enjoy the beautiful fall colors on this scenic chairlift ride to the top of the mountain at Winterplace Ski Resort.  Ride back down or take a scenic hike. Join us between noon and 5pm every Saturday and Sunday in October (weather permitting).  Must be 38 inches tall to ride. Tennis shoes or hiking boots and appropriate clothing recommended.

 

Cool Cruisin’ Nights @ Mercer Street Grassroots District

Join in the nostalgic fun and come Cruise the Strip in Downtown Princeton. Bring your favorite ride and cruise or bring your favorite lawn chair and sit and watch! October 20 it the Creepy Cruise where all rides are decked out for the ghoulish season.

This event is held the third Saturday of each month from May through October.
