New River Gorgeous Trail Run & Walk @ Ace Adventure Resort

Join ACE Adventure Resort for the 17th Annual New River Gorge-ous Trail Run & Walk. There are three race options including a half-marathon, 8.5 mile run or a 5 mile walk.  All the courses wander through deep hardwood forests and offer spectacular views of the New River and the historic town of Thurmond. And yes, prizes are awarded.

The Hatfield and McCoy 3D Challenge & Outdoor Show @ Twin Falls Resort State Park

Archery competition using 3D targets. International Bowhunters Organization scoring for the contest. This event is being presented by Southern Drawl Outdoors, Beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the Ballfield.

Entry Fee:    $15.00    Received by August 1st  

$20.00 Entry Fee for all entries received as of August 2nd — August 18th, 2018

Registration begins at 6:30 a.m.        Race starts at 8:00 a.m.                                          

T-Shirts will be given out at registration to the first 150 paid applications  

Award medals will be given to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners                                            

Participants can walk or run. We begin at the lower end of the golf course parking lot at 8:00 am

The course follows the paved road through the park entrance as color throwers toss a variety of powdered color in the air as each person goes by. The run is not timed. We encourage everyone to wear colorful outfits to add to the fun. Anyone interesting in volunteering as a color thrower please contact the park.

Honey Bee Festival @ Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine
Aug 18 @ 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

Learn how to raise bees, taste and purchase local honey, see live honey bee demonstrations, visit informational display tents, and participate in great activities for the entire family! Special children’s activities will take place at the Youth Museum such as bee dissections and bee crafts.  Food vendors will also be in place to satisfy your appetite.  The Long Point String Band will be performing during the day from 11am – 3pm.

Exhibition Coal Mine tours will be available all day for the special admission rate of $10 per person. The Mine is located at 513 Ewart adjacent to New River Park.  Mine and Museum hours are daily 10:00 am – 6:00 pm. For more information, visit online at www.raleighcountybeekeepers.com.

Through the Garden Gate: Bluefield Garden Tour

A summer garden tour in Bluefield featuring outdoor entertaining spaces and the art of tablescapes.  Featuring a walk-though of some of the most exclusive homes in Southern WV and the gardens they cultivate, a garden party at final tour home, live entertainment and complimentary wine and cheese.  Many of the homes are on the National Register of Historic Places.  Tour starts at 1339 Liberty Street, Bluefield.

BBQ & Brews Festival @ Adventures on the Gorge
Aug 18 @ 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm

An epic, artisanal BBQ experience on the rim of the New River Gorge featuring an Arte Flame, Brazilian grills, local breweries and FREE live music.  Chef Halliday will be hosting a BBQ Bootcamp and YOU get to eat the results!  Food and Beer tickets can be purchased the day of at Buffler’s Pizzeria located at AOTG.

Cool Cruisin’ Nights @ Mercer Street Grassroots District
Aug 18 @ 5:00 pm – 10:00 pm

Join in the nostalgic fun and come Cruise the Strip in Downtown Princeton. Bring your favorite ride and cruise or bring your favorite lawn chair and sit and watch! October 20 it the Creepy Cruise where all rides are decked out for the ghoulish season.

This event is held the third Saturday of each month from May through October.

 

Shovels and Rope Duo @ Carnegie Hall - Hamilton Auditorium

Shovels and Rope is a Charleston, South Carolina based duo comprised of husband and wife Michael Trent and Cary Ann Hearst.  They play a unique blend of Americana, folk, rock, country and punk. Together they have won American Music Association awards for Emerging Artist of the Year and Song of the Year (2013).

54th Annual Appalachian Arts & Crafts Fair @ Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center

In addition to the crafts, the show features daily musical entertainment for your listening pleasure.  Everything from traditional Celtic to Bluegrass, these WV entertainers are sure to please.
