Crafters from around the region display and sell their crafts. Quilt show, art show, fabulous food and live Appalachian entertainment. 10am to 8pm Friday and Saturday and Sunday noon until 6pm.

Appalachian Fest Events at the Beckley Art Center @ Beckley Art Center

August 25: 6-8pm

The Beckley Art Center is proud to host the musical talents and phenomenal storytelling of local legend John Wyatt: The Appalachian.  His songs and stories of the mountains transport you back to another time and place drawing upon his personal experiences growing up in rural Appalachia.  John Wyatt will perform live starting at 6 pm. Tickets are $15 are will be on sale up until the evening of the event by calling 304-253-9226. RSVP today!

August 26: 12-3pm

A perfect workshop for families and peoples of all ages and skill levels. Artist Christina Hototo will guide you in creating a paper mache creature. Keep one ear open, though, as you hear about the tales of monsters and creatures that have become legends of the mountain state.  $15 per person includes all supplies.  Participants are welcome to bring snacks and non-alcoholic beverages! Monroe County Heritage Days: “War Comes To Union” @ Elmwood Estate

Monroe County Heritage Days Presents A living History Event: War Comes To Union.

In 1864 the Federal Army occupied the town of Union for 5 days. Join us for the weekend as we recreate this moment in history.

Activities will include: Federal and Confederate Camps, Living History Scenarios, Military Drills & Demonstrations, Lady’s Tea, Friday night cannon and musket firings, and much more.

Oldies Rock & Roll Weekend Car & Motorcycle Show @ Pipestem Resort State Park
Aug 26 all-day

Car & Motorcycle Show:

Antiques, street rods, classics, customs, muscle cards, pro-street, trucks, motorcycle, and special interest vehicles are all part of a great car show this weekend. The show is open to the public we see the cars, trucks and motorcycles. There is no cost to attend the car show. Show registration ($15 entry fee) begins at 8:00 a.m.; awards presented at 4:00 p.m.

Oldies Rock & Roll: The Van-Dells – Amphitheater Show

For years, The Van-Dells have entertained audiences across the nation with a spectacular tribute to 50’s & 60’s rock and roll. With impressive lead vocals, tight harmonies, and hilarious antics, they have been called “The Three Stooges set to music”. This upbeat show is packed with comedy, choreography, and all the greatest hits.

Show begins at 8:00 p.m. at the Pipestem Outdoor Amphitheater.
Advanced ticket sales: Fee-based. Adults: $8; Children 6-12: $4; Children 5 and younger free.

Held on Labor Day Weekend, annually, Festival of the Rivers is a two-day music fest featuring grass-roots Appalachian music in celebration of our rivers and railroad culture.  Blues, Roots and Traditional musicians join us to showcase the influence Appalachian music has had on our world.  Noon until 9pm Saturday and Sunday. This event remains FREE to the public.

10-mile Bluestone Turnpike Hike @ Pipestem Resort State Park
Sep 3 @ 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

Start hiking at 10:00 a.m. from the patio at Mountain Creek Lodge. Ride the aerial tram down to Mountain Creek for this 10 mile hike from Pipestem State Park to Bluestone State Park. Wear good shoes, bring a light lunch (sandwiches and such), and plenty of water. A shuttle returns hikers to Pipestem around 4:00 p.m.

Preregistration recommended due to limited shuttle space. Sign up at the nature center or call Julie McQuade. Allow about 4-5 hours for the Bluestone Turnpike Hike. Hike leader is a National Park Service Ranger.

The Lower Gauley, not to be overlooked, is a fun, exciting trip suitable for beginners as well as those looking for adventure. Typical minimum age 12.
