Rail History
Take advantage of 2 unique chances to explore rail history in
Southern West Virginia.
The railroad helped shape and form our state, making travel and transportation of supplies and equipment possible in the wild pioneer days. Railroads peaked during the golden late 1800s, and well into the 1920s, before automobiles were able to navigate our mountainous roads.
You still have 2 chances to explore West Virginia’s Railroad history this fall, while enjoying the spectacular fall foliage colors:
Hinton Railroad Days
Oct. 17-18 and 24-25
The streets of historic Hinton come alive as the Hinton Railroad Days festival takes over the town with food and craft vendors, music and small-town fun. Don’t forget to stop by the museum for deeper insights into this industry’s storied past.
You’ll also get to see the famous New River Train as it pulls into the station each day of the festival to discharge the passengers from Huntington. The New River Train is already booked up this year during the festival, but you can book your own trip through the beautiful New River Gorge for next year.
Pocahontas NRHS Train Show
