These 7 Independence Day events go way beyond fireworks
If you think the 4th of July is just about sparklers, you haven’t been to Southern West Virginia.
Our Independence Day celebrations are so good, they attract folks from around the country! Rides, concerts, parades and games will keep you riveted until the fireworks display.
Here are our favorite red, white and blue parties:
1. Exhibition Coal Mine & Youth Museum’s celebrations | July 1-4
Did you know that West Virginia is famous for its marbles? King’s Blingz Glass Jewelry will show off their intricate, handcrafted techniques for this All-American craft July 1-2.
The Youth Museum will also honor American frontier heritage with its hands-on “History in a Wagon” exhibit. Try pioneer crafts like marble paper, dip candles and more July 2-4.
2. Bridge Walk | July 4
Celebrate America’s birthday with a special tour on the New River Gorge Bridge! Bridge Walk’s Independence Day trek starts in the morning, when fresh breezes and cooler temperatures make outdoor treks even better. From 851 feet high, you’ll also get the best views.
And here’s another perk: tickets are 50% off!
3. Fayetteville Lions Club 4th of July Celebration | July 2-4
“America’s Coolest Small Town” stays true to its nickname with peppy entertainment and eclectic venues. Saturday starts with Brian Hornsby, a Grammy winner famous for blues, rock, folk and jazz music. Listen as you tour artists’ booths and farmers’ market stands.
Sunday, come for a picnic while Heaven’s Harmony gospel singers perform upbeat songs.
Independence Day launches with a parade, vendors, car show and tons of kids’ games. Enjoy rides and music by gospel quartet Harmony Boys and Push Beyond, too! Then, come to the park at dusk for fireworks.
4. Adventures on the Gorge’s Family Carnival and Fireworks | July 3
Start your celebration a day early with free pool access, grilled comfort food, bounce houses, watermelon eating contests and music. You can also try your cherry pit-spitting skills!
Settle near the New River Gorge Bridge for dazzling fireworks, which AOTG promises will “rival any other show in West Virginia.” Considering the spectacular setting, maybe it’s true!
5. WV Miners Baseball | July 3
What’s more American than baseball? Cheer on the tried-and-true Miners as they challenge the Champion City Kings. After the game, wait around for fireworks!
Bonus tip: come back on the 4th for Beckley’s own fireworks demonstration!
6. River Expeditions’ Volley Championship Weekend Package | July 4 weekend
It’s up to you: does your holiday begin Friday or Saturday? River Expeditions has inclusive 4th of July deals for that outdoors vacation!

7. ACE Adventure Resort’s Big Air BLOB Competition | July 2
