Winter Cabins in WV

Cozying up by the fire, relaxing in the hot tub, skiing, hot chocolate… it’s the perfect season for a mountain getaway.

Summersville Lake Retreat (2012)

Luckily, it’s also cheaper to get away in the winter. Nearly every cabin has a special going on for the season, and most have regularly lower seasonal rates, so it’s much easier to find a great deal.

RELAXATION
Take the whole family to unwind (Even Fido’s welcome some places, like Rustic Retreat in Mt. Nebo)! Many cabins in WV have hot tubs and roaring fireplaces to stay warm as you spend some quality time in the scenic wilderness together. And, many are fully-stocked with every kitchen appliance you can dream of, so you can fill the whole cabin with the scent of a home-cooked meal.

They’re not short on in-cabin entertainment, either. Satellite channels and stations are a staple in many of the cabins. Some, like Summersville Lake Retreat (Mt. Nebo) have wifi, so you can stay connected, too.

And how about some romance? Opossum Creek Retreat (Fayetteville) can schedule massages for you, and Pipestem Spa has mountain chalets with sweet touches like jacuzzi baths and rocking chairs on the porch for a cozy evening in togehter. Enjoy chocolates and champagne in the Hemlock Haven Cabins (Hico).

ADVENTURE
Many of the cabins are scenic and tucked away near forest trails and paths. But you can get the full experience of the mountains in winter by sliding down the slopes! The Cabins at Pine Haven (Beaver) have a ski package with Winterplace Resort, where you can ski, snowboard or snow tube.

Skiing isn’t the only activity you can enjoy in the winter. ACE Adventure Resort (Minden) and Adventures on the Gorge Resort (Lansing) both have year-round adventures, including aerial zipline tours. Their specials change regularly, but you can usually package your adventure with your stay to save even more.

EXPLORATION
If you can draw yourself from the cabin comfort, head to nearby towns to visit the shops and restaurants. Country Road Cabins  and Mill Creek Cabins are located just a few miles north of Fayetteville, WV’s thriving arts and dining community.

ROOM FOR ALL
Take a whole group getaway! Luxury cabins come as large as small mansions. Greenhaven has 4 bedrooms, and the Pocahontas ATV Resort has rustic cabins that sleep up to 9, and Four Fillies Lodge has luxurious cabins that sleep 10 each.

Buffalo Trail Cabins lodge can sleep up to 22 people,  with amenities like a 6-person hot tub and a front porch that overlooks the buffalo farm.

That’s just a small sample of what you can find in Southern WV cabins the winter.
