With the holidays right around the corner, take some time to enjoy the beauty of the season! Southern West Virginia has an abundance of amazing holiday light displays. Plan an evening at some of our favorites for a perfect holiday season family activity!  

Appalachian Coal Town Christmas Holiday light display

Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine – Beckley, WV
Enjoy a beautiful holiday light display at the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine. The holiday lights display will be held until the end of December.  Ice Skating rink until Dec 5th and Appalachian Coal Town Christmas November 28th, 29th, and December 5th and 6th. 

Glade Springs Holiday Light Trail – Beckley, WV

The Glade Springs Holiday Light Trail is a walking tour that features breathtaking light displays, photo ops, and hot chocolate that will put you in the holiday spirit.  Open Thursdays – Sundays (not open Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve & Christmas Day), November 29th to January 1st from 6-10 pm.

Fayette County Park – Fayetteville, WV
Start a new holiday tradition or continue a favorite one at the annual Winter Wonderland at Fayette County Park. Drive through the park to view holiday scenes made from thousands of lights. The Winter Wonderland light display opens on December 1 and runs through December 27th. Monday through Thursday the lights run from 6PM to 9PM. for $5 per vehicle. Friday through Sunday nights are 6PM – 10PM for $7 per car. Sip hot chocolate from the canteen or stop by the food trucks on the weekends to enjoy a tasty treat while seeing the lights. 

Nicholas County Veteran’s Memorial Park – Summersville, WV
Vote for your favorite display! Each year, members from the community put up lights for the Christmas Lights in the Park event, where folks can drive or walk through and vote on. Opening night is November 29 with the lights on nightly from 5:30PM to 10PM. Drive or walk through the displays and choose your favorite. On Saturdays, enjoy crafts, visits with Santa, and wagon rides from 6PM to 8PM. The lights shine until January 2. 

Holiday of Lights, Bluefield, WV
What began as a small holiday display has grown into one of the largest lighting exhibits in West Virginia. Beginning on Thanksgiving night and continuing through January 4th, see numerous displays from the comfort of your car while driving through the 40-plus-acre park. The Holiday of Lights hours are Sunday through Thursday from 6PM to 9PM and Friday and Saturday from 6PM to 10PM.

Historic Towns
The historic towns of Southern West Virginia are also getting into the holiday spirit! Small towns like Beckley, Hinton, Alderson, Lewisburg, Bramwell, Oak Hill, and Fayetteville showcase lights along their main streets all month long! Be sure to check out all the beautiful lights these small towns have to offer.
