The Hatfield-McCoy Trail System


The Hatfield-McCoy Trail System is one of the largest off-road vehicle trail systems in the country. It is made up of six individual trail systems, three in Southern West Virginia, that are open every day of the year to ATVs, UTVs and dirt bikes. If you like mud and adventure, this is one of the best ways to explore the mountains of West Virginia.

Permits

You must have a valid permit to ride the Hatfield-McCoy Trails. Permits can be purchased online at www.trailsheaven.com, or at authorized retailers located near the Trails.

Cost

$26.50 WV resident, $50, non-WV resident

Hours

All riders must be off the the trails by dark.

  • Off-Roading through "Trail Heaven"
  • This trail is known for its breathtaking views. It is located in Wyoming County near the towns of Mullens and Pineville. There are connector trails to those two communities, where riders can find food, gas and lodging. Be sure to stop in and visit nearby Twin Falls State Park. This trail system connects to the Indian Ridge Trail System in McDowell County.

  • At Indian Ridge, you’ll get 63 miles of trails in McDowell County offering a variety of difficulty levels. There are connector trails to the communities of Keystone and Northfork, and food, gas and lodging available in the surrounding area. This trail system connects to the Pinnacle Creek and Pocahontas Trail Systems. There is one trailhead with parking and restrooms. The communities of Kimball and Welch are nearby and have interesting stops.

  • This trailhead is located in the historic town of Bramwell, where food and gas is available. These trails are more scenic and have a lower percentage of difficult sections than some of the other trail systems. This trail connects to the Indian Ridge Trail.

  • The Warrior trailhead is located in McDowell County in the city of War which is West Virginia’s most southern city. This trail system also accesses the ATV-friendly city of Gary. The Warrior Trail System offers numerous scenic views and has direct access to gas, food and lodging.
