Southern West Virginia’s Most Terrifying Halloween Attractions

Spine-tingling haunted trails, a warehouse full of monsters and a coal mine with killer clowns hiding around each corner – Southern West Virginia has plenty of attractions to help you kick your Halloween into high gear. Check out some of the most terrifying highlights below!

ACE Nightmare in the Gorge

Feeling brave? Step into the haunted Warehouse of Terror at ACE Adventure Resort’s Nightmare in the Gorge. Wind around the 6,000-square-foot labyrinth of rooms filled with monsters that will terrify you to your core.

Next, take a trip down the Devil’s Mine Shaft. New this year, the mine shaft tunnel will take visitors into a pit of darkness. But beware of the creatures hiding in the shadows!

For one night only – on November 3rd – guests can tour both the warehouse and mine shaft in the dark. Armed with just one glow stick per group and with all of the lights turned off, visitors can try to make their way through the darkness. This pitch black tour is not for the faint of heart!

For those who want a monster-free adventure, check out the nighttime zipline tours at ACE. Fly through the trees with only a headlamp to light your way!

ACE’s Nightmare in the Gorge is open Friday, October 26 and Saturday, October 27 from 7 – 11 pm and the “lights out” tours on Saturday, November 3.

Fright Nights at the Resort at Glade Springs

With more attractions than ever before, Fright Nights at the Resort at Glade Springs is truly terrifying. The Appalachian Anarchy Haunted Trail will take you deep into the woods and you never know what could be lurking behind the trees.

The 3D Nightmare haunted funhouse is filled with killer clowns, shifting floors and spinning rooms that will make you feel like you’re losing your mind!

Ready to face your fears? Then tryout Biohazard Laser Tag! Armed with your own laser gun, be prepared to take out zombies, aliens and monsters.

If the haunted attractions haven’t scared you away yet, check out the Glade Springs Escape Room. With challenges in varying degrees of difficulty, the escape room is a great option for family fun.

Fright Nights will be open Friday, October 26 and Saturday, October 27 from 6:30 pm – 10:30 pm.

Beckley Haunted Coal Mine

Travel into the depths of the earth at the Beckley Haunted Coal Mine. This year’s theme focuses on scary zombies and killer clowns and will leave ready to run for your life. Visitors will board a “man car” that will take you deep into the Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine. As the car twists and turns through the mine, watch out for creatures lurking around the corner!

The Beckley Haunted Coal Mine will be open October 25-27 from 6 pm – 10 pm.

Haunted Hayride Hysteria

Wind your way through the forest near the shores of Summersville Lake at the Haunted Hayride Hysteria. You’ll never know what could be lurking just beyond the trees! Children under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult for the Haunted Hayride Hysteria and a portion of all proceeds benefit the Nicholas County Humane Society.

The hayrides will run Friday, October 26 and Saturday, October 27 from 6:30 pm – 10 pm.

Lake Shawnee Dark Carnival

Known as one of the most haunted places in America, Lake Shawnee Abandoned Amusement Park is opening its gates later in October for the Lake Shawnee Dark Carnival. Tour the ancient burial ground, wind your way through the abandoned rides, listen to ghost stories around the fire to learn more about all of the tragedy that took place at the site. Bring your flashlights, cameras and paranormal equipment!
If the amusement park hasn’t scared you enough, Lake Shawnee offers overnight stays. Camp out among the abandoned rides and eerie lake. Will you make it through the night?

Dark Carnival will be held Friday, October 26, Saturday, October 27 and Halloween night from 6:30 pm – 10:30 pm.
