Prost! Join us for Oktoberfest

Tis the season for Bavarian brats, craft brews and all things German!

The hearty good cheer of harvest festivals means autumn is finally here. Next month, look forward to seasonal brews, zany contests and German cuisine.

Oktoberfest | Oct. 8

Pipestem Spa and Event Center is doing Oktoberfest in style. Try free craft beer samples  before you purchase a full glass from breweries like Bridge Brew Works, Greenbrier Valley Brewing Company and Dobra Zupas.

Keep your spirits up with 10 local bands and a DJ. Look forward to old-time, fun-lovin’ music by Poor Taters and Americana blues by Matt Mullins and the Bringdowns.

There will be plenty of Bavarian specialties, too. Tracie’s German Grille and Brandon’s BBQ will serve traditional delicacies, fresh smoked pork, hot grilled sausages and pretzels with Dusseldorf mustard. Even the cabins will be transformed into an alpine village!

And because Oktoberfest has always been a little crazy, Pipestem will have silly games of its own. Enter a beer chugging contest or waddle to victory in a chick dancing competition! It’s all fun and games from 11 a.m. to midnight.

Oktoberfest in the Park | Oct. 8

Bavarian flavor brings craft brews, German meals and lively music to Bluefield City Park from 1pm to 6pm on Saturday, October 8th.

Sip seasonal brews from top craft brewers like Bell’s, Wolf Hills and Deschutes. Or, if you’re the do-it-yourself type, enter your homemade cider or beer in a contest!

In true Oktoberfest fashion, Bluefield’s festival will have plenty of rousing music from Germany and Appalachia alike. Hear rockin’ bluegrass from The Kind Thieves and Matt Mullins and the Bringdowns. Route 161 Happy Wanderers will also keep your feet tapping with catchy polka.

For lunch and dinner, order wood-fired pies from DogTown Roadhouse Pizza and German cuisine like grilled bratwurst, soft pretzels, fresh sauerkraut, braised pork loin, soft rolls and tasting plates. Sweeten your day with desserts, too. Temptations include caramel-dipped apples, cobblers and pie a la mode.
