DESCRIPTION:The council of the Southern Mountains invites you to the 2022 Head of the Dragon Motorcycle Ride on October 8\, 2022 beginning on Main Street\, Kimball. Kimball\, WV 24853.\nThis year’s event will be the biggest ever held as it will be in conjunction with the Kimball Fall Festival. Iaeger and Bradshaw also hold their festivals on the same day as the Head of the Dragon is a celebration of the adventurous and challenging experience of traversing the roadways of southern West Virginia. \nFree registration for the premiere West Virginia Head of the Dragon Motorcycle and Sports Car event starts at 9:00 a.m. with the Motorcycles pulling out to ride the beautiful\, curvy roads of McDowell County at 11:00 a.m. The West Virginia State Police Motorcycle Detachment will join the ride of over 500 curves on the scenic yet challenging roads of southern West Virginia. \nMultiple awards will be presented to the motorcycle riders and sports car participants. One of the event highlights is the very popular and exciting motorcycle stunt group called “Stunt Army” from Charlotte\, NC\, which will perform throughout the day. DESCRIPTION:Make your reservation now for the Fall Photo Workshop at TRAC! We’ll have about 10 usually shy\, birds of prey\, including Regis – a Bald Eagle\, Benny the Barn Owl\, Gimli – and American Kestrel\, Dori – a Peregrine Falcon and several more ambassadors posing like models in natural settings. It’s an excellent way to capture once-in-a-lifetime photographs of skittish birds and a way to practice your wildlife photography skills at the same time. It’s quite rare to be able to ask to place birds of prey in a photographic position\, but you can at this workshop. If it’s a natural\, safe position\, we’ll do our best to pose them there.\nYou can attend the all-day session from 9 am-4 pm or register for the morning session from 9-12 pm or the afternoon session from 1-4 pm. The birds will be in different locations during the morning and afternoon sessions. Your participation fee helps fund the rehabilitation work at the Three Rivers Avian Center. DESCRIPTION:Join New River Gorge National Park and Preserve (NRGNPP) and Active Southern West Virginia on Saturday\, October 8\, at 3:00 pm\, at the Grandview area’s Big Buck Trail in a special guided walk to introduce the park’s new B.A.R.K. Ranger Program. The hike will begin at Picnic Shelter #2 and will be an easy walk along even terrain. \nThe program is being launched during World Animal Week in recognition that NRGNPP protects native species and their habitats\, while also inviting visitors to bring their leashed pets on trails to explore all the things that make West Virginia and the park wild and wonderful. Pets too\, can be responsible park stewards\, and the park wants to recognize those who are through this program. \nWe want to encourage our four-legged friends to set an example of best practices for recreating in the park by learning the rules and guidelines for their visit (via their human). Pets can then earn their own B.A.R.K Ranger collar tag and official B.A.R.K Ranger certificate\, proving that they know how to set a good example while enjoying the park. Following the B.A.R.K rules\, our domestic pets stay on the trail and out of native species habitat keeping both pets and wild animals safe.
