Please do wear a costume that allows you to move easily and see clearly. We know this is the year of the mask but breathing and seeing while running is awesome.\n\nTips:\n-Please park at the T intersection trailheads.\n-Please practice social distancing.\n-Please respect other runners and trail etiquette while on the trail.\n\nAfter the run either stick around or come back later in the day for an adventure bike ride\, trick or treat event\, tacos\, and a beverage.\n\nPolecat Tacos will be at the brewery slinging tacos from 1 pm-8 pm so stop by. DESCRIPTION:Gather with us for a Witches and Warlocks Stand Up Paddle on the New River on Halloween. We will be meeting at the upper Fayette Station Parking lot. Attendees need to sign a waiver in advance\, must know how to swim\, and wear PFD’s. This event is not designed for first-time paddlers. Paddlers must be confident in maneuvering boards.We will launch at the upper beach at Fayette Station wearing PFDs paddling approximately 500 yards upstream on the flat water back to the beach. This is a leisure paddle but keep in mind that the current of the river can be challenging for beginners.\nThis is a limited ticket event capped at a maximum of 50 participants to ensure that we can follow COVID guidelines. This also allows us to have space for vehicle parking and allows for ease of launch and exit from the river. You must preregister to attend. The initial event of the Rim to River Endurance Runs\, the course consists of winding single track & rail-to-trail from the rim of the Gorge to down along the New River. Along with the natural beauty of waterfalls\, whitewater\, & dramatic views\, you’ll also find ghost towns\, centuries-old cemeteries\, & abandoned mine shafts throughout the course. SUMMARY:Hands on Tamarack: Ceramic Classes
DESCRIPTION:Hands on Tamarack: Ceramic Classes instructed by Chris Boyd.\nThis is a 4 week course that will allow students the opportunity to become familiar with clay through hand-building\, wheel work*\, and decoration. The students will create at least 4 distinct projects\, and finish a minimum of 4 pieces.\nThe ceramic classes will begin on November 15.\n\nLearning Objectives:\n1 – Understand physical characteristics of clay through the making cycle.\n2 – Build a foundation of basic clay skills: Pinching\, Joining Processes\, Coil Building\, Slab Building\, and Wheel work* (Centering\, Opening\, Etc.)\n3 – Surface treatments and techniques.\n4 – Finishing work: Glazing\, cleaning\, and sanding.\n\nClass Schedule and Description:\nWeek 1 Day 1: 11/15/21\nClay Stamps\, Studio Cleanliness & Pinch Pots\nCreate a “signature” stamp to mark work\, and make a pinch pot and texture stamps. We will also go over studio conduct standards\nDay 2: 11/18/21\nUnderglaze Tray\nThis will serve as an introduction to slab work\, joining\, and underglaze techniques. The project will be a serving tray that’s shaped using drape method and decorated with texture from found objects\, finally being painted with underglazes for color.\n\nWeek 2 Days 1 & 2: 11/22/21 and 11/23/21 * This class will be on Tuesday due to Thursday being a holiday.\nCoils and Introduction to Wheel\nStudents will create a slab base and build using coil technique. Beginning of wheel work using 1# clay\, including instructions on preparing clay for throwing.\n\nWeek 3 Days 1 & 2: 11/29/21 and 12/2/21\nHand-building Tea Set\nStudents will create a tea set including two cups and a teapot. Students who have advanced in wheel throwing enough may attempt to create this project on the wheel*.\n\nWeek 4 Days 1 & 2: 12/6/21 and 12/9/21\nTrimming & Extruding\nThe final week of the course will focus on trimming wheel work and using the extruder to create functional and decorative pieces. This weeks project will be a jar using the extruder or the wheel*.\n\nEach new idea will be demonstrated by the instructor at the beginning of each class. The kiln schedule will be based on drying time of pieces and volume of work with a goal of at least one firing per week. Students will need to have open studio time outside of class to work on techniques and complete complex pieces. Students can schedule up to 2 hours extra per week\, and will be required to clean up after themselves.\n\n*Wheel Work not applicable to hand-building-only students
