DESCRIPTION:Join Domenica for a few fun hours of Creating a Still Life! \nParticipants will learn via a Zoom Class the fundamentals of setting up an interesting still life composition and drawing from it. We will talk about meaningful objects\, lighting considerations\, composition\, and the basics of sketching & drawing.\nThis class is helpful and fun for people of any age! Featuring an array of two- and three-dimensional artworks\, this show is sure to captivate avian enthusiasts\, art-lovers\, and everyone in-between. \n\nRepresentation of birds in artwork can be found as far back as prehistoric cave paintings\, proving their ability to capture the human imagination and inspire people to create works of art even before humans knew what art was or the impact it could have hundreds of years after its creation. \n\n“With our ‘Birds of a Feather’ exhibition\, we wanted to give our juried artists an opportunity to recognize the inspiration that our feathered friends have given artists of all mediums throughout the year\,” said Gallery Director Mandy Lash. \n\nThere are some exciting changes happening at Tamarack Marketplace and Lash said the artwork isn’t the only thing new in the David L. Dickirson Fine Arts Gallery. “We have taken this time to rearrange and refresh our space to create a more dynamic and visually interesting display\,” said Lash. “These small\, subtle changes are just a glimpse of what is to come for our well-loved space in the next year. Our aim is for the impact of these changes\, along with the artwork from our immensely talented artists\, to be noticeable as soon as you step foot into the gallery.” \n\nWith Spring right around the corner and the hope of getting back to a modified\, pre-pandemic lifestyle\, this exhibition is sure to add to the brightening spirits of all Tamarack Marketplace visitors. “’ Birds of a Feather” is immersive and unlike any exhibition\, our community has seen from us in many years\,” said Lash\, “immediately giving our guests a sense of joy\, happiness\, and hope.” \n\n“Birds of a Feather” will be on display until April 11th. DESCRIPTION:The Pocahontas Exhibition Mine is an educational look at underground coal mining in southwest Virginia. Coal was first mined there in 1882 and the mine operated for 73 years. With a 13-foot tall coal seam\, the mine was proud to fuel the American Navy. The mine is open Wed-Sat from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m.-5 p.m. From to September. Children that are under the age of six can see the mine and the museum for free.
