Beckley Concert Association presents Traditional Indian Music.
Indian classical music has two fundamental elements, raga (melody) and tala (rhythm). The raga forms the fabric of a melodic structure while the tala measures the time cycle. The raga gives an artist a palette to build the melody from sounds, while the tala provides them with a creative framework for rhythmic improvisation using time. Unlike the fixed rigid compositions of western classical music, Indian classical music consists of continuous improvisations (much like jazz). The actual performers will be named at a later date.
This concert is funded by Dr. S. Bembalkar and is Free to the Public. Performance begins at 7:30 pm at Woodrow Wilson High School Auditorium in Beckley.
