WVU Tech’s Department of History, English, and Creative Arts invite the community to a special presentation by West Virginia author Candace Nelson. Her book, titled “The West Virginia Pepperoni Roll” explores the history of the unofficial state food of the Mountain State with recipes, photographs, and a collection of stories that preserve the history of immigrants, entrepreneurs, and workers all connected by the pepperoni roll.
Nelson also authors a food column for the Charleston Gazette-Mail where she explores the Appalachian food community and works to help tell West Virginia’s story.
Nelson is an award-winning journalist and published researcher. Her work has appeared in publications across West Virginia, in addition to NPR, Food & Wine, and more.
Join us Thursday, April 13, 2023, in the Carter Hall Auditorium (322 S Kanawha St) from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
