FOURTH OF JULY CELEBRATIONS

The following events have been scheduled in celebration of the Independence Day holiday.

ALDERSON

June 30 — July 7

8:45 to 10 p.m. — Lights show July 3

6 to 9 p.m. — Kids’ Night at the football field

7 to 10 p.m. — Square dance in the Alderson Elementary School cafeteria.

July 4

8 a.m. — Arts, crafts and commercialsales, Alderson Elementary School grounds

10 a.m. — Throttle Throbs Car Show, Old Greenbrier Baptist Church parking lot

10:30 a.m. — Grand Parade

1 p.m. — Stuart’s Smokehouse “Hot Dawg Eating” contest

4 p.m. — Greenbrier vs. Monroe and kids’ tug of war contests

10:15 p.m. — Grand Fireworks aerial and ground display July 5

6 p.m. — Ducks on the Greenbrierrubber duck race

6:30 p.m. — Adult watermelon eating competition

7 p.m. — Cherry pit spitting contest Fireworks to follow MONTGOMERY

7 to 10 p.m. — Music: Willie D and No Regrets

10 p.m. — Fireworks During the evening the city will be serving free ice cream, compliments of Dairy Queen.

Mercer County – Bramwell, Bluefield & Princeton

The town of Bramwell will host children’s activities on July 4 from 12 p.m.-3 p.m., at the train depot on Main Street. (There will be no fireworks this year.)

Bluefield Blue Jays game at Bowen Field against Burlington on July 3 at 7:05 p.m. Fireworks will start at the end of the game.

Princeton Speedway hosts the 2nd Annual Freedom 30 on  Tuesday, July 3, with a night of open wheel racing followed by a fireworks spectacular.

The 8th annual Mercer County Fourth of July Celebration at the Hunnicutt Stadium in Princeton will begin at  9 a.m., with a car show.  Stadium gates open at 1 p.m. Throughout the day, there will a Kids Corner, live music and more. The evening will end with Rick K and the Allnighters followed by spectacular fireworks around 10 p.m. This event is free to the public. Family friendly with no alcohol allowed.
