Film: Mystery Horror Screening-Raleigh Playhouse

January 17, 2020 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

We know there will be some people pretty excited to see this back on the slab…. #VivaLaRaleigh

That’s right, Mystery Horror is BACK – stirring up the new year, new decade, new era here at The Raleigh with a wintertime flick curated by our guest host Will R. Of his film viewing Will says:

“I’ve had a deep love of film for as long as I can remember, and I’ve wanted to be a filmmaker ever since I was 13. My viewing habits and interests have varied over the years, but lately I’ve taken an interest in Midnight Movies (their historical and cultural significance) and cult B-Movies. I respond strongly to films that have a solid grasp on atmosphere and world-building.

“My love of the horror genre began when I was very young, and I was specifically fond of Stephen King and Michael Myers. As I grew older, I noticed it was rare for horror movies to scare me, but I remained fascinated with the genre. Watching a great horror movie is like being able to intellectually analyze a nightmare from a safe distance.

“As far as specific horror movies and filmmakers go, I’m a big fan of the original Halloween and Black Christmas (also the original). But lately, I’ve developed a strong admiration for Ari Aster and his movie Hereditary from 2018. That was the first movie I’ve seen in many years that made me feel genuinely terrified in the movie theater. ”

But what of his pick for this month’s Mystery Horror fare?

“It’s basically a cult-movie gem that really flew under the radar in the late 90s. It’s one of my top ten favorite movies, and I’ve made it my life’s mission to show it to as many horror movie buffs as I can.”

Will we see you there?
