Creating A Still Life

Participants will learn via a Zoom Class the fundamentals of setting up an interesting still life composition and drawing from it. We will talk about meaningful objects, lighting considerations, composition, and the basics of sketching & drawing.

This class is helpful and fun for people of any age! We would recommend a skill-level of intermediate and higher.
This class can be helpful for painters, sketch/drawing artists, and more.
Participants are encouraged to set up their own still life scene but are free to draw from what I set up during the zoom.

Class Outline

-Discussion about considering the objects that go into setting up a still life.

-Set up a still life and learn to light the scene in dynamic ways, while giving some time for students to the same if they chose to set up their own.

-Discussion about composition and choosing what part of the display to draw.

-Breaking down broad forms and color values in the composition to make an initial sketch.

-Time drawing in details and discussing progress & techniques with students as they work.

-Discussion about making art with what’s on hand.

Pencil with eraser
Paper
Access to the Zoom ap & internet connection
Other recommended items:
Multiple objects to arrange into your own still life
A small light source to adjust the lighting (lamp, flashlight, window light)
Other tools to draw with like colored pencils, pastels, etc
Different surfaces to draw on
Tissue paper
Extra erasers
A smartphone to take photos
