The Beckley Exhibition Coal Mine and Youth Museum is gearing up for its annual
Appalachian Coal Town Christmas, a beloved holiday tradition that has been captivating visitors for
over two decades. This year’s event will take place on two consecutive weekends: November 29th and
30th, and December 6th and 7th.
From 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM each night, guests can immerse themselves in a winter wonderland. For a fee
of $12.50 per adult and $10 per child, visitors can enjoy a variety of festive activities. Guided
underground tours will take visitors deep beneath the surface of New River Park, where they can
experience the history of coal mining in a unique and unforgettable way.
For those who prefer to stay above ground, there will be plenty of opportunities for holiday fun.
Caroling in the church, meeting Santa Claus, and ice skating on the popular outdoor rink are just a few
of the attractions. This year marks the sixth year for the ice rink, which has become a beloved tradition
for locals and visitors alike.
In addition to the outdoor festivities, the Youth Museum will be open to visitors, offering a hands-on
exhibit titled, How People Make Things, and a Christmas ornament workshop. Both museum gift shops
will also be open, selling a variety of unique coal creations, jewelry, sweatshirts, Christmas items, and
freshly made fudge.
The grounds of the Exhibition Coal Mine and Youth Museum will be adorned with thousands of festive
lights and decorations, creating a magical atmosphere. Food trucks and craft vendors will also be on
hand, offering a variety of items.
