Backroads of Appalachia, in collaboration with The West Virginia Gambler 500, is thrilled to announce the upcoming off-road and overland endurance challenge – “24 Hours of Appalachia: Miner’s and Logger’s Delight.” Scheduled to take place from July 26 to July 28, 2024, this unique event aims to push the limits of adventure while raising funds for two vital causes – Harmony’s Breath and the NOAH Foundation.
Event Highlights:
Date: July 26-28, 2024
Location: West Virginia back roads and trails (Beginning in Hinton, WV in downtown)
Purpose: Raising funds for Harmony’s Breath and the NOAH Foundation
Hosts: Backroads of Appalachia, City of Hinton, WV Gambler 500, Summers County CVB
Route: 400+ miles through the coalfields of southern West Virginia and timber and logging lands of south-central West Virginia (Tour De Coalfields by Adventure Horizons)
Classes of Entry:
50 slots for Motorcycles (Adventure and Enduro)
50 slots for Side by Sides (SPV Plates Required)
100 slots for Trucks/SUV’s/Jeeps/Subaru’s
Registration:
The registration fee is donation-based, allowing participants to contribute to the causes they care about. All funds raised will go towards supporting Harmony’s Breath and the NOAH Foundation.

Friday:
5-8PM Community event and Driver/Team Check In (Info sent via email on location)
Saturday:
6:30AM Driver Meeting
7:15AM First vehicle out
Sunday:
4PM-6PM Reception and Awards
Rules and Requirements:
Vehicles/Motorcycles must be licensed and insured
Drivers must have valid drivers/operators license
All full size rigs and SXS’s must have a co-driver/navigator (it is not required, but a third person for spotting/recovery is a great idea if vehicle space allows)
4WD/AWD vehicles only
29” minimum tire size (NO MAX TIRE SIZE)
Functioning seat belts and safety restraints
The ability to self recover (winch, traction boards, hi-lift jack, come along)
First Aid Kit
Navigational tools (Gaia GPS, OnX, Garmin) must be able to open and follow a .gpx file and also record a track at the same time (We will check for accuracy at the end of the event)
Adequate lighting
Air compressor
Tire repair kit
GMRS Radio (No CB’s)
Cell phone
All gear in the vehicle must be secured (no flying objects)
Chainsaw not required, but highly recommended
All WV Traffic and Road Safety laws apply

200cc-900cc (covers TW200’s and KTM 890 Enduros)
Full Knobbies front and rear
GPS/Phone navigation and related mounts
Handheld Radio
Full wrap-around handguards
Fully insured and street legal
USFS stamped spark arrestor and no louder than 98-decibel exhaust
Spare tubes or plug kit
First aid kit
Gear:
DOT approved Helmet
Goggles/safety glasses
Full-length shirt/jersey and pants
Gloves
