Welch, WV
The county seat of McDowell County. The Historic McDowell County Courthouse is infamously known as the site where detectives from the Baldwin-Felts Agency assassinated Matewan Police Chief Sid Hatfield and Ed Chambers during the coal mine wars in WV. There is an annual reenactment and an annual outdoor production of Terror of the Tug - a play about the coal mining wars in WV. Held at the McArts Amphitheater at Mt View High School. Also visit Martha H Moore Riverfront Park which offers a view of the river and an amazing mural.
