Keep Active This Winter
Just because the bears are hibernating doesn’t mean you have to!
There are winter adventures around every corner in Southern West Virginia.
1. Hit the slopes
Face the cold weather head-on at Winterplace Ski Resort. If skiing or boarding isn’t your thing, Winterplace also has the largest tubing park in the state! Enjoy the thrill of sliding down a giant hill and being zoomed back up on a super carpet lift. Just like when you were a kid— but wayyyy less work.
2. There’s no “off-season” at the Gorge
Bundle up and hit the trails of New River Gorge National River and Bluestone National Scenic River. Don’t forget to log your miles! When you reach 100, you’ll earn a special prize! Register by sending your name and email to NewRiverGorge100MileChallenge@
3. Explore Twin Falls Resort State Park
In between hiking and mountain biking, you can dive into early 1800s history and the lives of early Twin Falls settlers at the historic Pioneer Farm. You can also enjoy the year-round nature and outdoor recreation program on-site, where you can learn about wildlife in Twin Falls.
4. Take a ride through history
Whatever mode you choose– ATV, dirt bike or utility vehicle– you can be sure to expect an adventure on the Hatfield-McCoy Trails System. Come find out why riders call it “Trails Heaven.”
5. Escape the freezing temps
No matter the time of year, Lost World Caverns is always 52 degrees (which on some days, may seem like a tropical oasis). Guide yourself through a half-mile loop, exploring formations like “The Snowy Chandelier” and “The Bridal Veil.” Don’t forget to check out the dinosaur museum and unique gift shop before heading home!
6. Explore scenic SWV on a horse, of course.
Open year-round, Autumn Breeze stables offers western trail riding on Pre-Civil War roads with beautiful mountaintop views. Choose from 1 to 3 hour trips, each with unique (and all equally breathtaking!) views of Greenbrier County.
7. Learn just how versatile golf can be
Golf gets a little funky at Pipestem Resort State Park. Sporting enthusiasts of all ages can get their hearts racing playing 3 different variations of good old fashioned golf: disc golf, foot golf or FlingGolf. If you’re into interesting hybrid games, pick up a disc, a soccer ball or a FlingStick and get to Pipestem Resort State Park. If golf– in any form– isn’t your thing, enjoy the 20 trails that are maintained year-round for hiking.
How will you keep moving this season?
