National Park Service – New River Gorge National Park and Preserve

It encompasses 70,000 acres between Hinton and Fayetteville. Created to conserve and protect 53 miles of the New River as a free-flowing waterway. Visitors Centers are Canyon Rim, Thurmond Depot, Grandview, and Hinton. Call for hiking and biking trail information. IMPORTANT INFORMATION: This visitors center will be closed from January 1, 2024 - early March. An exciting renovation complete with new exhibits is underway! Sandstone Visitor Center on the southern end of the park will remain open throughout the winter from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, seven days per week. Visitors to the northern end of the park may visit park headquarters in Glen Jean for information, open Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. The Thurmond Depot will also be open on weekends January and February where park-related sales items also may be purchased. The self-guided walking tour of Thurmond remains open seven days per week.
